Lisa gardiner, amft

What is your philosophy in psychotherapy?

Being human is incredibly challenging, although the shape of those challenges is unique to all of us. Therapy is a collaborative process that can help us grow, become unstuck, relate to ourselves or others more deeply, feel more supported or self-aware, and/or help us with greater self-acceptance.

What approaches do you use to help your clients?

My approach is integrative and strength-based, with a foundation in psychodynamic theory, which prioritizes deep listening and the early relationships that shape us. I have additional training in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT).

What are your areas of expertise and clients you work well with?

I work with adults and teens experiencing depression, anxiety, the impacts of trauma, as well as relationship challenges, life transitions and grief, among other challenges. I enjoy supporting parents and working with couples. I also work with people experiencing or recovering from illness as well as their caregivers.

What’s your therapeutic style with your clients?

Curious, collaborative, compassionate, engaged.

What languages do you speak?

English.

Past Experience and Education

She completed her practicum at a low-cost counseling center in West Sacramento, where she gained experience working with adults, couples, teens and children. Being a therapist is her second career.
