I believe that providing a safe and accepting environment that allows ample space for clients to be themselves is one of the most important aspects of psychotherapy.
I often use a person-centered, humanistic stance, but also integrate other forms of psychotherapy, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Transactional Analysis Redecision Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to help tailor the psychotherapy to the client.
Because of my educational background and past professional experiences, I have an enthusiasm for working with clients who have experienced homelessness, incarceration and/or trauma and serious mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, severe major depressive disorder, psychosis and severe anxiety.
Introspective, non-judgmental.

Dr. Katrina La Mar feels that providing a safe and accepting environment that centers around the client is one of the most important aspects of psychotherapy. She, therefore, practices from a person-centered humanistic stance, but also likes to integrate other forms of psychotherapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, transactional analysis redecision therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy to help tailor the psychotherapy to the client. She describes herself as an introspective therapist who is non-judgmental and allows ample space for clients to be themselves in the room.
Dr. La Mar is currently a licensed psychologist at Vantage Point Center for Psychotherapy. She received her BA in general psychology from the University of Santa Cruz, California. She got both her MA and PhD in general psychology with an emphasis in clinical psychology from Fielding Graduate University.
Dr. La Mar has supervised experience working with homeless women from Saint John’s Program for Real Change, a variety of clients while working for Authentic Counseling Associates, adults, and adolescents in an inpatient psychiatric facility while working at Sierra Vista Hospital, and adults and adolescents with a dually diagnosed developmental disability and mental illness who were determined to be incompetent to stand trial while at Porterville Developmental Center. Dr. La Mar completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Vantage Point Center for Psychotherapy working primarily with clients with serious mental illness, severe anxiety, and neurodivergent clients as well.
From these experiences, she discovered an enthusiasm for working with clients who have experienced homelessness, incarceration, and/or trauma and for treatment, neurodivergence, early intervention, and prevention of serious mental illness. She has experience working with clients with serious mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, severe major depressive disorder, psychosis, and severe anxiety. She has also published several research articles, presented posters, and co-written a book chapter on serious mental illness and homelessness.
