About
Ashlene Kaur Sandhu, M.A, is a 4th year doctoral student in Clinical Psychology. She operates from the philosophy that individuals are lifelong learners and that meaningful change can occur at any stage of life through a collaborative and therapeutic relationship. Ashlene takes an individualized and culturally responsive approach to therapy, tailoring her work to each client’s unique background, identity, and lived experience.
Clinical Approach and Interests/Specialties
Through her clinical experience working with teenagers, adults and couples, Ashlene has developed a strong interest in a relational and psychodynamic approach to therapy. She believes that early life experiences shape how individuals understand themselves and show up in relationships, and she integrates this perspective to support clients through concerns such as, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, emotional dysregulation, and interpersonal or relationship challenges.
Growing up with Western and South Asian influence, she is passionate about working with other individuals from diverse backgrounds who are navigating cultural identity, family expectations, and intergenerational dynamics.
She is also interested in working with individuals experiencing eating disorders and OCD symptoms and approaches this work with sensitivity and care to what the individual is experiencing underneath emotionally and behaviorally.
Her approach integrates both insight-oriented and skills-based work. She helps clients understand how past experiences and relational patterns may be influencing their present, while also building practical tools to support emotional regulation, communication, and day-to-day functioning.
Ashlene draws from a range of evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and
Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-informed, attachment-based and psychodynamic approaches. She adapts these modalities to each client’s needs, goals, and pace of therapy.
She has experience working across a range of clinical settings, including community, medical, and neuropsychological contexts supporting individuals adjusting to health- related changes such as injury or chronic conditions. She understands how these experiences can change someone’s life impacting their identity, mood, and relationships, and incorporates this perspective into her work.
Ashlene frequently works with individuals who are new to therapy and strives to make the process feel approachable, collaborative, and empowering. Her therapeutic style is warm, direct, and collaborative, balancing empathy with thoughtful challenge to support meaningful growth.
