Our Psychotherapy Approaches
At Vantage Point Center for Psychotherapy, we offer evidence-based, relational, and skills-focused therapies tailored to each client’s needs. Our clinicians work collaboratively with clients to build insight, increase emotional flexibility, and support meaningful, sustainable change. We provide care for individuals, couples, children, and adolescents, both in person and via telehealth.
About Vantage Point’s Approaches
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) focuses on increasing psychological flexibility—the ability to stay present, open to internal experiences, and engaged in actions aligned with personal values. Rather than trying to eliminate distressing thoughts or feelings, ACT helps clients change their relationship to them so they no longer dictate behavior. ACT integrates mindfulness, values clarification, and behavior change strategies to support a more meaningful life.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a compassionate, evidence-informed approach to therapy that views the mind as made up of different “parts,” each with its own thoughts, feelings, and roles. Some parts may carry pain or past wounds, while others work to protect us from distress. IFS helps individuals build awareness of these internal dynamics, heal wounded parts, and access their core “Self”—a place of calm, clarity, and confidence. This approach can be especially helpful for trauma, anxiety, and improving self-understanding.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a skills-based therapy that emphasizes mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT helps clients manage intense emotions, reduce impulsive behaviors, and build more stable relationships. Treatment may include individual therapy, skills groups, or both.
Psychodynamic therapy focuses on understanding how past experiences, relationships, and unconscious patterns shape current thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By exploring these deeper layers, clients gain insight into recurring challenges and relational patterns. This approach emphasizes the therapeutic relationship as a space for reflection and growth, helping individuals develop greater self-awareness, emotional insight, and lasting change over time.
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a specialized form of CBT used to treat anxiety disorders, particularly OCD. ERP involves gradually and intentionally confronting feared situations or sensations while reducing avoidance and compulsive behaviors. Over time, this process decreases anxiety and increases confidence in managing distress without relying on compulsions or avoidance.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based approach that examines the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. CBT helps clients identify unhelpful thinking patterns, evaluate their accuracy, and replace them with more balanced alternatives. This process supports improved emotional regulation, problem-solving, and day-to-day functioning.
